Winter Rose

She had heard tales of wondrous beauty
And to experience for herself
A rose awoke once on a winter’s day
And greeted sun in reddish colours

But little did she know the times had changed

There was no snow there to caress her
No icy frost around to dress her
No cold and biting air to breathe
Just mud and water underneath her
The trees slept bare under the sun
The sparkly beauty was all gone

Thus saddened by her expectations
She withered quietly by the end of day
There was no reason left to stay
